Mark was previously in the band Creed with Flip and Brian. He's had a deathly fear of needles since childhood. A story his father recounts is that one time when Mark was younger and had to go to the doctor he memorized the light codes for procedures, especially drawing blood and would somehow dissapear from the exam room when that combo of lights was lit. Years later on stage with Creed, the lights on Mark's rig flashed in a pattern that his old doctors office used which caused him to freeze up on stage. Mark is the only band member not to have a tattoo due to his fear of needles.
